Favorite Books

It’s been an idea for a while (before The Skateboarding Dream was released) to do a post of my favorite books. I thought about doing it as a list, but I realized that could get long/boring and that there were many books/genres I could include. In the end, I decided to do a series of posts divided up into my favorite books including fiction and nonfiction.

The first genre is realistic fiction. I have read a lot of realistic fiction books and quite a few of these have influenced my writing. Four of the most influential authors for my writing, in regards to the realistic fiction genre are; James Patterson, Andrew Clements, Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, and Terri Farley. My two favorite series James Patterson wrote are; Middle School the Worst Years of My Life, and IFunny. My favorite book by Andrew Clements is, The School Story. My favorite series of Phyllis Reynolds Naylor was Boys vs. Girls and my favorite series by Terri Farley was Phantom Stallion. Many of the main characters in this book are middle school aged which isn’t too far from the age of the main character in my own book, The Skateboarding Dream. Many of these series I read, during the very early stages of writing The Skateboarding Dream. A few I read before the idea for The Skateboarding Dream popped into my head. In the next post I’ll talk about Andrew Clements book, The School Story which influenced me quite a bit to go in the direction of becoming an author.
