Behind the Scenes: Skateagy Comic: Chapter Two

Sometimes you think ok it’s just one negative thought maybe it’ll go away. Chapter two shows Diffident coming back (hence the chapter’s title, Diffident Comes Back). It has a lot of skate park scenes and shows the lack of self confidence starting to become a real thing.

Chapter Two starts with Ashling’s first time at the skate park, and her insecurities about going down a particular ramp. Diffident comes in and takes over, telling Ashling she can’t do it (it’s too fast and big). Ashling gets nervous/scared from these thoughts and is defeated by Diffident (she decides to try something else). Now Diffident isn’t going to leave her alone because Ashling gave in once. Diffident continues to bug her at the skate park. After the skate park it shows her thoughts in the car and the first little bit of magic when she sees a building turn into a skate ramp.

Then Chapter Two, shows Ashling going to the skate park and meeting up with her friends. Her friends are super excited she has a skateboard and encourage her to keep skateboarding. Her friends look up to the Legends and tell Ashling she can get to that level. Which leads Ashling to think about who she looks up to. It also shows her starting to blush and feel nervous around her friends when talking about skateboarding.

At the end of Chapter Two, Ashling notices someone watching her and her friends skateboard from the trees, but she doesn’t recognize this person. She wonders who this person is. Ashling also thinks about how nice and encouraging her friends are. While Diffident isn’t directly in these last two scenes, Diffident has still affected what Ashling thinks of herself and her passion for skateboarding.

Chapter Two has a lot of thoughts from Ashling, I wanted to show the thought process that she goes through as she struggles with having confidence in herself (I might do a second post about this topic for the chapter). This chapter also was when I finally got my characters drawn to where I liked them (which I had been trying to work on throughout drawing the prologue, and first couple of chapters. I wanted the drawings to be consistent). So, I was able to create a sheet of the characters that I could trace from.

If you haven’t read Chapter Two yet or you want to reread through it, you can do that here.
