Behind the Scenes: Skateagy Comic

The Skateagy comic illustrates and tells a story that goes with the theme I mentioned in my last reflections post. The story has been in the making for a long time. It’s been in my head since I started skateboarding as a teenager (I was kinda influenced by my friends who were into drawing comics) and I have some early drawings of the Skateagy comic. The early drawings were mostly random story lines that popped into my head. Some of them even had skateboard designs. I had always wanted to put the comic out online, and almost two years ago I started doing that.

The story for the Skateagy comic was always the same, a girl who started skateboarding, conquering her fears, doing cool tricks (her dreams), and going on adventures in a magical world. It was based on my own experiences skateboarding and struggles with being confident.

When I started thinking about putting the comic out I realized this story really needed a plot line rather than just random pages that I drew. So, I started reading/looking at other web comics analyzing what plot lines they had and their drawing style. Eventually I decided some of the plot line I wanted, and a general drawing style I wanted to draw. The whole plot line of the comic did not come to me until a little after I started putting the Skateagy comic up online.
