Behind the Scenes: Hope

The official title for my second album is, Hope Deluxe. It includes 20 songs including songs redone from my first album. Originally, it was only going to be about 12-14 songs, but as I thought about how this year has felt like a new beginning for Skateagy, I didn’t want to close this year leaving my first album still not redone. It made sense to redo the songs from my first album especially since two songs were singles on an album again. It felt like putting Hope and Dreams and Journeys together would complete part of a story.

Hope’s story has a couple different situations in it. One is like a married couple. Another one is, leaving behind home and going to a new place. Having to leave behind the friends you knew to make new ones without forgetting your friends you knew before. There is also the struggles within these situations and the other situations that happen.

Hope is to help show growth and how some of the struggles previously mentioned feel like. Not only had I gone through rough patches while working on this album, but I also learned more recording, editing, and mixing in college. There was a lot of things that came into my mind to put into the songs during this time.

Originally, Hope started with other songs that are not on the album. One of my goals with Hope was to have it be more than 10 songs so, as I decided what I wanted this album to be and what songs to have on it, it would grow to 20 than narrow back down to 12 than back to 20 and so forth. Not only did the songs change, but also the way I wanted to market the album changed. Originally, I had wanted the album to come out two years ago, and it kept changing until I decided to do it this year and felt like I could get it ready. There was lots of changes from my original plans to make Hope be what it is today.
